IL SB1360

Creates the "access to nutritious food program" under the Department of Agriculture to establish projects and strategies in food deserts focusing on distribution of fresh nutritious food and nutrition education.

Defines "food desert" as an underserved geographic area where fresh nutritious foods are difficult to obtain, including areas with 25% of households below federal poverty level, median family income not exceeding 80% of Illinois median, or at least 500 residents/33% of population residing more than one mile from a supermarket (or 10 miles in non-metropolitan census tracts).

Requires the Department to promote sharing of information concerning best practices and programs proven effective in improving distribution of fresh nutritious food and nutrition education.

Mandates the Department to convene an annual meeting of nonprofit organizations and interested parties to share best practices and information on programs that have proven effective in improving access to fresh nutritious food and nutrition education.
