IL SB1628

Allows students to take up to 5 excused absences per school year for mental or behavioral health reasons without requiring a medical note.

Designates mental health absences as equivalent to days of compulsory attendance for purposes of attendance reporting and calculating absenteeism rates.

Permits schools to refer students to appropriate support personnel after the second mental health day is used.

Excludes students taking up to 5 mental or behavioral health days from the definition of "student" in chronic absenteeism reporting requirements under Section 26-18.

Requires students to be given the opportunity to make up any school work missed during mental or behavioral health absences.
