Department of Transportation shall establish a pilot program to install early warning devices on or near bridges and viaducts to alert drivers of low clearance hazards.

Early warning devices may include LiDAR, radar, visual signals, or additional signage.

Department may collaborate with interested stakeholders and the University of Illinois to identify suitable locations and evaluate device effectiveness.

Pilot program shall evaluate effectiveness of early warning devices, develop design specifications, and project estimated costs.

Department or local authority may impose fines up to $1,000 on motorists who damage early warning devices.
