SB1717 Summary

• Extends the sunset date for the Private Detective, Private Alarm, Private Security, Fingerprint Vendor, and Locksmith Act of 2004 from January 1, 2024 to January 1, 2029.

• Requires all applicants and licensees to provide valid mailing and email addresses to the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, which serve as the official address of record and email address of record for notices and communications.

• Removes outdated provisions allowing persons who provided canine odor detection services prior to January 1, 2005 to obtain licenses without meeting standard requirements, and eliminates requirements for free exhibit certification and roster maintenance.

• Modifies training certification procedures to allow employers to provide either the original or a copy of training forms to employees upon termination of employment, rather than only the original form.

• Makes technical and non-substantive changes to gender-neutral language throughout the Act and removes the requirement to charge for exhibits certified in court proceedings.
