IL SB1840

Expands the purposes for which park districts can use their police tax levy to include "public safety and security measures" in addition to organizing and maintaining a police system.

Defines "public safety and security measures" to include security personnel, safety audits, active-shooter training, security improvements, video cameras, metal detectors, emergency call boxes, and similar safety-related upgrades to park facilities.

Allows park districts that previously approved a "police programs" levy to also use those funds for public safety and security measures under this amended Act.

Requires park district police officers to complete training established under the Illinois Police Training Act.

Maintains the existing tax rate limit of 0.025 percent and the referendum process requiring 10% of registered voters to petition for a public vote on the tax levy.
