Free fixed-route public transportation services are provided to seniors aged 65 and older in the Chicago metropolitan region, initially to all seniors within 60 days of the 95th General Assembly, then transitioning to income-qualified seniors within 180 days of the 96th General Assembly.

Income eligibility for free senior transit services is based on the threshold established in the Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities Property Tax Relief Act.

Free fixed-route public transportation services are extended to persons with disabilities meeting the same income eligibility limitations as seniors.

Eligibility for free services automatically renews every 5 years after the Authority receives a copy of the individual's government-issued identification card validating Illinois residency.

The Department on Aging must provide updated lists and all information necessary to determine eligibility for free transit services to the Metropolitan Transit Authority, Suburban Bus Board, and Commuter Rail Board.
