Licensed motor vehicle dealers must obtain an off-site sale permit from the Secretary of State before conducting sales outside their dealership, with a $25 application fee.

Display exhibition permits cost $10 and are valid for up to 30 days; trade show exhibition permits also cost $10 and are valid for up to 30 days.

Exemptions from permit requirements apply to self-contained motor homes, mini motor homes, van campers, and recreational trailers, including trailers designed to transport vessels or watercraft.

Licensed Illinois motor vehicle dealers are authorized to conduct sales activities via the Internet and deliver vehicles to customers' addresses without requiring an off-site sale permit, provided the customer requests it in writing and identity is verified at delivery.

Out-of-state trailer and motor home dealers must have at least 2 licensed Illinois dealers participating in off-site sales or trade show exhibitions to obtain a permit.
