SB1923 Summary

• Division of Probation Services shall reimburse counties for 100% of salary costs for probation officers and supervisors approved for pretrial services programs and specialty court programs.

• For remaining probation officer positions in basic and new/expanded services, beginning July 1, 2024, 20% of the total statewide positions as of July 1, 2021 shall be transferred annually to receive 100% salary reimbursement, with this process repeating each July 1 until all positions are transferred.

• Current reimbursement structure maintains $1,000 per month for probation officer positions not covered by the 100% salary reimbursement categories, until the annual transfer process moves them into full reimbursement.

• Counties remain responsible for capital costs, space, fringe benefits, clerical costs, equipment, telecommunications, postage, commodities, and printing for probation departments.
