IL SB2005

Amends the Housing Authorities Act by adding Section 34 to establish housing preferences for homeless veterans.

Requires housing authorities to develop and implement policies granting housing preferences to veterans who are homeless, with preferences cumulative with any other preferences the veteran qualifies for.

Defines "veteran" as any individual who has served as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces or the Illinois National Guard.

Defines "homeless individual" through five criteria including lack of fixed residence, occupancy of temporary shelters, residence in unsuitable places, recent institutional exit, or imminent housing loss with no alternative resources.

Provides that the new preferences do not supersede any applicable federal law or regulation.
