Educational support personnel employees are added to the list of school employees who cannot be required to work on legal school holidays, matching protections already extended to teachers and other school employees.

No deduction shall be made from the time or compensation of any school employee, including educational support personnel employees, for legal or special holidays they would have otherwise been scheduled to work.

School boards may hold school or schedule teachers' institutes, parent-teacher conferences, or staff development on five specific holidays (MLK Jr. Day, Lincoln's Birthday, Casimir Pulaski's Birthday, Columbus Day, and Veterans' Day) if the honored person is recognized through instructional activities and a public hearing is held with notice to educators and parents.

Commemorative holidays remain regular school days and include observances for Muhammad Ali, Christa McAuliffe, Susan B. Anthony, Vietnam War Veterans, and other historical figures and events.

Chicago School District 299 shall observe March 4 as Mayors' Day to commemorate past Chief Executive Officers of Chicago, particularly former Mayors Richard J. Daley and Harold Washington.
