IL SB2039

Amends Illinois School Code to require schools to inform students with intellectual or developmental disabilities and their parents/guardians about the PUNS (Prioritization of Urgency of Need for Services) database maintained by the Department of Human Services.

Requires the Department of Human Services to develop an online training program for at least one designated employee per public school to educate staff about the PUNS database, registration steps, required documentation, and how to contact Independent Service Coordination agencies.

Mandates that school districts post the names of trained PUNS employees on their websites and student handbooks so families can access information and assistance.

Requires IEP teams to determine during annual reviews whether students with intellectual or developmental disabilities are registered for PUNS and refer unregistered students and families to trained school employees for registration assistance.

Requires schools to provide parents/guardians with a copy of the Department of Human Services's "Understanding PUNS" guide at each annual IEP review meeting.
