SB2214 - Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant Practice Act

• Creates licensure framework for certified anesthesiologist assistants (CAAs) under the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, requiring master's degree, completion of accredited anesthesiologist assistant program, and passage of National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants examination.

• Requires CAAs to practice only under supervision of anesthesiologists with written supervision agreements, with supervising anesthesiologist maintaining immediate physical proximity to address urgent medical needs.

• Authorizes CAAs to select, order, and administer drugs and medical devices for anesthesia services under the anesthesia plan agreed to by supervising anesthesiologist.

• Allows CAAs to work in hospitals and ambulatory surgical treatment centers under anesthesiologist supervision with granted clinical privileges, and prohibits direct billing to patients (employer may bill for services rendered).

• Establishes Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant Advisory Committee, sets grounds for disciplinary action including civil penalties up to $10,000, and provides for repeal of the Act on January 1, 2033.
