IL SB2252

Amends the Childhood Hunger Relief Act to require the State Board of Education to collect and publicly report annually on which schools operate breakfast after the bell programs and what models they use (breakfast in classroom, second chance breakfast, grab and go breakfast).

Establishes a competitive grant program providing up to $7,000 per school site for nonrecurring startup expenses to initiate breakfast after the bell programs, subject to appropriation.

Grants may fund equipment acquisition, staff training, outreach efforts, facility alterations, point-of-service computer systems, and food transport vehicles.

Grant preference given to applicants that submit a comprehensive plan with stakeholder engagement, a detailed budget, secure additional public or private resources, and commit to operating the program for at least 3 school years.

Prioritizes grant awards to applicants serving schools with higher rates of free or reduced-price eligible students.
