SB2301 Summary

• Election authorities may reduce the number of election judges in each precinct from 5 to 3 for any election, except in counties with a population of at least 3,000,000 or where election commissioners select judges.

• In counties under township organization, the county board may reduce judges from 5 to 3 for any election, with the same exception for high-population counties and those using election commissioners.

• Boards of election commissioners in cities, villages, and incorporated towns shall select no less than 3 persons (rather than 5) as judges of election for each precinct.

• The bill maintains existing flexibility to appoint 3 judges for emergency referendums, odd-year elections, and special congressional elections, now supplemented by broader authority for any election.

• The act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
