IL SB2340

Removes the September 1, 1992 manufacturing date requirement so that all school buses must be equipped with octagon-shaped stop signal arms conforming to federal safety standards 49 C.F.R. 571.131.

Authorizes school buses to install up to 2 extensions to the required stop arm on the driver's side to partially obstruct the roadway for passenger safety.

Specifies that front side extensions may not exceed 78 inches from the bus side and rear extensions may not exceed 32 inches, with both mounted at least 36 inches from the ground.

Requires all extensions to be equipped with flashing red light systems in addition to existing lighting requirements under Section 12-805.

Prohibits motor vehicle drivers from making contact with a stopped school bus, its extensions, or any school child within 30 feet of the bus, with violations subject to penalties under Section 11-1414.
