IL SB2407

Amends Illinois Vehicle Code Section 11-1414.1 to allow multifunction school activity buses (MFSAB) to transport high school students (grades 9-12) participating in career exploration programs with parental or guardian approval.

Adds career exploration program participation as an exception to the requirement that students be transported in standard school buses for curriculum-related activities.

Requires MFSAB drivers to hold valid school bus driver permits and comply with safety requirements under Sections 6-106.11, 6-106.12, 12-707.01, 13-101, and 13-109 of the Illinois Vehicle Code.

Prohibits MFSAB use for regular bus routes between home and school; multifunction buses may only transport students for curriculum-related activities other than standard home-to-school routes.

Effective date: July 1, 2023.
