SB2635 Summary

• Amends the Paid Leave for All Workers Act to exclude certain higher education employees from the definition of "employee," including those employed for less than 2 consecutive calendar quarters without reasonable expectation of rehire and those with temporary appointments under the State Universities Civil Service Act.

• Excludes higher education faculty and instructors with teaching, research, and extension contracts or appointments of less than 12 consecutive months from paid leave requirements.

• Excludes employees of public community colleges or other public institutions of higher education whose positions are covered by a bona fide collective bargaining agreement from the act's requirements.

• Adds laboratory schools as defined in the School Code to the list of entities excluded from the definition of "employer" under the act.

• Effective January 1, 2024.
