IL SB2672

Adds Section 356z.71 to the Illinois Insurance Code, effective for policies amended, delivered, issued, or renewed after January 1, 2026, requiring coverage of brand name prescription drugs when generic drugs or therapeutic equivalents are unavailable due to supply shortages listed in the FDA's Drug Shortages Database and dosage cannot be adjusted.

Defines "eligible prescription drug" as non-patented drugs approved under federal law, "generic drug" as drugs approved through abbreviated applications, and "unavailable" as drugs listed as Currently in Shortage or Discontinuation (but not Resolved Shortage) in the FDA database.

Applies the generic drug shortage coverage requirement to group and individual accident and health insurance policies and managed care plans.

Extends the generic drug shortage coverage requirement to Health Maintenance Organizations, Limited Health Service Organizations, and Voluntary Health Services Plans by adding Section 356z.71 to their applicable Illinois Insurance Code provisions.
