SB2720 Summary

• Prohibits the Secretary of State from issuing, renewing, or allowing retention of a driver's license or permit to anyone possessing a revoked Firearm Owner's Identification Card, unless the card is successfully reinstated or surrendered.

• Requires the Illinois State Police to provide notice to the Secretary of State of any individual who fails to surrender a revoked Firearm Owner's Identification Card.

• Amends the Firearm Owner's Identification Card Act to establish a 48-hour surrender requirement for revoked cards and requires completion of a Firearm Disposition Record disclosing all firearms owned or controlled by the revoked person.

• Makes violation of the card surrender requirement a Class A misdemeanor and allows law enforcement to petition for search warrants if a person fails to comply.

• Establishes procedures for destroying surrendered revoked cards and notation in a state portal, with exceptions for cards lost/destroyed or ordered surrendered by courts.
