IL SB2788

Amends the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act to require all suspected child abuse or neglect reports be made immediately by telephone to the state-wide toll-free number, in person, or through the nearest Department office.

Requires the Department to distribute materials listing the toll-free reporting number and reporting methods in school buildings in cooperation with school officials, and may distribute similar materials in religious buildings in cooperation with clergy.

Mandates posting of a notice at locations where the state-wide number is posted warning that knowingly transmitting false reports constitutes disorderly conduct under the Criminal Code, classified as a Class 4 felony.

Removes the requirement that all reports by mandated reporters be confirmed in writing to the appropriate Child Protective Service Unit within 48 hours of the initial report.

Requires the Department to orally notify local law enforcement and the State's Attorney within 24 hours of receiving reports alleging child death, serious injury, torture, malnutrition, or sexual abuse of children age 12 and under, with written confirmation within 24 hours.
