IL SB2947

Prohibits courts from instructing juries about the consequences of findings of fault by plaintiffs or defendants in negligence and strict product liability cases.

Removes the requirement that courts instruct juries in writing that defendants are not liable if the plaintiff's contributory fault exceeds 50% of the proximate cause of injury or damage.

Changes joint liability thresholds to use "proximate cause of the injury or damage for which recovery is sought" instead of "total fault attributable to the plaintiff, the defendants sued by the plaintiff, and any third party defendant except the plaintiff's employer."

Defendants with less than 25% fault are severally liable for non-medical damages; defendants with 25% or greater fault are jointly and severally liable for non-medical damages.

Applies to causes of action accruing on or after the effective date of this amendatory act.
