Vacancies in township offices with 28 months or less remaining in the term shall be filled by appointment, with the appointed officer serving the remainder of the term.

Vacancies with more than 28 months remaining shall be filled by special election at the next general election, with the appointed officer serving until election results are certified and the elected person qualifies.

Cook County township supervisors' compensation cannot be increased during their current term of office.

Any compensation ordinance establishing or modifying supervisor salaries must apply uniformly to all supervisors whose terms begin after the ordinance is enacted.

Townships are prohibited from decreasing a newly elected supervisor's salary while maintaining an incumbent's higher salary; any ordinance violating this provision is null and void.
