Adds "emergency department staff" to the list of protected persons under aggravated assault and aggravated battery laws in Illinois Criminal Code sections 12-2 and 12-3.05.

Defines "emergency department staff" as clinical or nonclinical staff in hospital emergency departments who may contact patients, including physicians, nurses, technicians, security staff, housekeeping personnel, and pharmacists.

Defines "health care facility" as facilities licensed under the Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Center Act, Hospital Licensing Act, Nursing Home Care Act, Assisted Living and Shared Housing Act, and Community Living Facilities Licensing Act.

Enhances penalties for assaulting or battering emergency department staff performing official duties, being assaulted to prevent performance of duties, or being assaulted in retaliation for performing duties.

Effective immediately upon enactment.
