EMS Medical Directors may suspend EMS personnel and participants who fail to meet Program Plan requirements, with the Department reviewing suspensions and incorporating their duration into any subsequent license actions.

Prior to suspension, individuals and entities must receive a hearing opportunity before the local System review board, with further appeal rights to the State EMS Disciplinary Review Board.

EMS Medical Directors may immediately suspend individuals if continuation in practice poses imminent danger to the public, with verbal notification followed by written suspension order specifying length, terms, and basis.

When an immediate suspension is not stayed, the Department Director or designee must determine whether statewide suspension applies only when a licensee is charged with a crime committed while performing official EMS duties and poses imminent harm based on factual evidence.

Individuals under investigation have the right to union representation and legal counsel present at interviews, with all medical and patient-specific information held strictly confidential under the Medical Studies Act.
