Increases the fixed magazine capacity threshold for semiautomatic shotguns from 5 rounds to 10 rounds to qualify as an assault weapon, and defines "capacity" as the total number of rounds that can be used of the maximum identified chambered sized round.

Adds an exemption to the assault weapon definition for any firearm included on the list of applicable weapons approved for hunting purposes under the Wildlife Code.

Maintains the existing ban on manufacturing, delivering, selling, importing, and purchasing assault weapons, assault weapon attachments, and .50 caliber rifles/cartridges effective January 10, 2023.

Preserves the possession ban beginning January 1, 2024, with exemptions for those who registered weapons via endorsement affidavit by October 1, 2023, allowing possession only at home, licensed ranges, gunsmith shops, or while hunting.

Continues exemptions for peace officers, law enforcement, military personnel, armed security at nuclear facilities, and Olympic target shooting competitors.
