SB3327 Summary

• Amends the Counties Code Section 3-9005 regarding special investigators appointed by State's Attorneys.

• Removes the restriction that special investigators can only carry firearms while performing their assigned duties, allowing them to carry firearms anytime with State's Attorney permission and appropriate identification.

• Maintains the requirement that special investigators must successfully complete basic police training mandated by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board or have prior law enforcement experience/training.

• Requires fingerprint background checks through the Department of State Police before appointment and prohibits appointment of persons with felony convictions or convictions involving moral turpitude.
