SB3511 - Let America Read Act

• Prohibits entities and staff with oversight over public school books, instructional materials, or curriculum from refusing to approve or banning materials based on depictions of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, sexual and reproductive health, gender identity, religion, or human rights activism.

• Applies the prohibition to all materials including memoirs, autobiographies, and biographies used in public schools.

• Allows entities to impose limitations on access to books and instructional materials based on the age and developmental level of students.

• Establishes penalties for school districts that violate the Act's provisions.

• Adds new Section 2-3.24 to the Illinois School Code to codify these restrictions on book banning.
