IL SB3537

Amends the Animal Welfare Act to allow animal shelters and animal control facilities to waive fees for microchipping and sterilizing dogs and cats in addition to waiving adoption fees for veterans.

Requires veterans to present either an Illinois driver's license with "veteran" designation, an Illinois Identification Card with "veteran" designation, or a federal Veterans Identification Card along with a valid Illinois driver's license or ID card.

Permits shelters to limit veteran adoptions to one dog or cat per individual in a 2-year period.

Maintains existing requirements that dogs and cats must be sterilized and microchipped before adoption, unless a veterinarian certifies the animal is too sick or injured to undergo the procedures.

Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
