Beginning July 1, 2025, school districts or unit school districts with at least one high school must have at least one student board member selected from that high school.

Student board members serve one-year terms beginning July 1 or on their selection date (whichever is later) and ending June 30.

Student board members have advisory voting rights only, can make and second motions, and may attend executive sessions, but cannot be counted toward quorum.

Student board members must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and remain enrolled students, except during summer break between school years.

Student board members are selected through elections held by all enrolled high school students, with the first election during the 2024-2025 school year and annually thereafter; vacancies are filled by principal appointment.
