Illinois reaffirms its commitment to strengthening sister-state ties with Taiwan (Republic of China) established in 1992, based on shared values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

Illinois supports Taiwan's efforts to negotiate a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement (ADTA), and Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) with the United States to enhance bilateral trade and investment.

Illinois supports the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act and endorses Illinois businesses referring to Taiwan as "Taiwan, R.O.C." in conducting business ties, as authorized under the Act's Article 4, Section b.

Taiwan was Illinois' fifth-largest Asian export market in 2022 with $876 million in exports, while importing nearly $4.4 billion in U.S. farm products and ranking as the ninth-largest U.S. trading partner with over $160 billion in bilateral trade in 2022.
