Illinois Senate expresses condolences on the death of William L. "Red" Downing of Lewistown, who passed away on July 2, 2024

Red Downing was born May 3, 1928, served in the U.S. Air Force in Germany, and married Erma M. Black on June 28, 1963

Retired from International Harvester after 31 years of service and was an active member of UAW Local #1357, serving as a union steward

Enjoyed working on 1940s Willys Jeeps and Army trucks and fishing in his spare time

Survived by his sister June Tompkins; niece Cheryl Rakestraw; nephew Bill Downing; step-granddaughters and step-grandsons; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews
