Betty Ann Maguire of Virden passed away on July 11, 2024; she was born in Carlinville on October 14, 1940, and graduated from Virden High School in 1958.

Worked for Horace Mann, Macoupin County State's Attorney, State's Attorney Appellate Prosecutor, Sangamon County State's Attorney, and the Governor.

Served on the Virden School Board beginning in the late 1970s, as Ward 3 alderperson for numerous years, on the Virden Park Board, and as an election judge and cheerleading competition judge.

Decorated the local park for Christmas, served as Christmas parade marshal, and installed American flags on neighborhood mailboxes for the 4th of July; named Virden Citizen of the Year in 2017.

Survived by her son Rick, daughters Teri and Andrea, seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
