Robert E. "Bob" Chipman of Jacksonville passed away on July 20, 2024, and the Illinois Senate memorializes his death.

Chipman graduated from Illinois College in 1974 and served on its Board of Trustees for 25 years, becoming known as "Mr. Illinois College" and receiving an honorary doctorate.

He was a licensed real estate broker and state-certified appraiser who owned Chipman Realtors and Appraisers, and served as past president of the local Association of Realtors and chairman of the Multiple Listing Service.

Chipman was actively involved in numerous Jacksonville community organizations including the Jacksonville Area Museum, Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation, Prairieland United Way, Jacksonville Kiwanis Club, Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, and Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce (serving as board chairman in 2022).

He was a longtime active member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, serving as a church elder and trustee, and taught adult Sunday school with his wife Janet for 30 years.
