John M. Burke of Des Plaines passed away on July 9, 2024, at age 84, born March 27, 1940 in New York City to Ignatius and Elizabeth Burke.

Served as special agent with Army Intelligence and pursued a career in security and investigations, including serving as chairman of the Chicago Chapter of the American Society for Industrial Security.

Actively served his community through leadership roles at St. Stephen Protomartyr Church, Des Plaines History Center, Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines, Des Plaines Library Board, and organizations including Crime Stoppers, PADS, and Meals on Wheels; volunteered as reading tutor at Forest Elementary School for six years.

Survived by his wife of 55 years Marie, daughters Katherine and Michelle, granddaughter Vivian, siblings Regina Vassak and Kevin Burke, and numerous extended family members.

The Illinois Senate adopts this resolution to mourn John Burke's passing and extend condolences to his family and loved ones.
