Fred M. Lear of Rock Island passed away on July 12, 2024, and the Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his family and loved ones.

Born March 17, 1936, Lear graduated from Rock Island High School and Augustana College, where he was a standout baseball player, and served in the U.S. Army as a communication specialist.

Taught in the East Moline School system for 30 years and was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Rock Island, where he sang in the choir and bowled in the church league.

Married Carol A. Johnson on June 14, 1958, and is survived by his wife of 68 years, two children (Chris and Lori), two grandchildren, and his brother and sister-in-law.

The Illinois Senate resolution honors Lear as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed traveling, golfing, and supporting the Chicago Cubs and Bears.
