Illinois Senate mourns the death of former Illinois Auditor General William G. "Bill" Holland, who passed away on August 10, 2024, in Seattle, Washington.

Holland served as Illinois Auditor General from 1992 to 2015, making him the state's longest-serving auditor general, spanning administrations of five governors, five state treasurers, and six state comptrollers.

Prior to his appointment as Auditor General, Holland served 41 years as a public servant, including roles as director of the Illinois House Majority Appropriations Committee Staff and chief of staff to Senate President Phillip J. Rock from 1983 to approximately 1993.

Holland was inducted into the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) Hall of Fame in 2022 and earned a reputation for fairness, objectivity, and high ethical standards.

Holland is survived by five siblings, three children (Meghan, Tom, and Jack), and seven grandchildren.
