Richard J. McKinlay of Oak Park passed away on May 27, 2024, at age 87; born April 11, 1937, in Chicago to John Forsyth McKinlay and Vivian (Johnson) McKinlay.

Earned a master's degree in sociology from the University of Chicago and began his career at the National Opinion Research Center before founding McKinlay Marketing.

Served as president of the Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago and president of the Parks Foundation of Oak Park, where he established dog parks and supported renovation of Ridgeland Commons.

Was an early champion of electronic and avant garde music with a lifelong appreciation for quality sound systems, cars, clothing, and furniture design; maintained a cottage in Door County, Wisconsin.

Illinois Senate mourns his passing and extends condolences to his surviving wife Peg McKinlay, daughter Kristin, granddaughter Winnie, and extended family.
