Philip L. "Phil" Theobald, a respected sports journalist, passed away on October 4, 2024

Theobald was born in Galesburg on January 3, 1941, graduated from Galesburg High School in 1959, served honorably in the U.S. Army, and married Sandra Lind on May 31, 1990

He had a 40-year journalism career spanning the Galesburg Register-Mail, Canton Daily Ledger, and the Peoria Journal Star (1965-2004), where he served as sports columnist and assistant sports editor covering the Chicago Bears, Peoria Chiefs, and Bradley Braves

He was survived by his wife Sandra, two daughters (Erin Berry and Andra Chamberlin), stepdaughter Susan Stairwalt, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, and numerous extended family members

The Illinois Senate mourns his passing and extends condolences to his family and friends
