Illinois Senate mourns the death of Norm Peterson, who passed away on September 16, 2024

Served as director of government relations for the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory for more than 36 years, building relationships with elected officials at local, state, and federal levels

Instrumental in securing major projects for Argonne including the Argonne Guest House (first lab building funded by the State of Illinois), the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research, the Q-NEXT quantum center, and the Energy Storage Research Alliance

Prior career included work at the Tinley Park Mental Health Facility, the administration of former Governor Jim Thompson, and as the first executive director of the Governor's Commission on Science and Technology

Retired from Argonne in 2023 and continued as a senior advisor on a part-time basis; survived by his partner Lori Clark, daughter Erika Peterson, and granddaughter Emma Moon
