Illinois Senate expresses condolences for the death of Robert A. "Bob" Helman of Hyde Park, who passed away on October 4, 2024

Helman was born in 1934, graduated from Austin High School and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, received a bachelor's degree and juris doctor from Northwestern University, and served in the United States Army until 1958

Helman had a 65-year legal career, joining Isham, Lincoln and Beale as its first Jewish lawyer, then moving to Mayer Brown in 1967 where he served as chairman from 1984 to 1998 and remained a partner through 2023; he led the firm through significant growth and diversification

Helman devoted time throughout his career to civic and charitable causes and is survived by his wife Janet of 66 years, three children, two grandchildren, and his sister Marjorie
