Illinois Senate mourns the death of Dr. Nelson A. "Pete" Wright III, M.D., who passed away on November 4, 2024.

Dr. Wright practiced medicine in Pekin for 37 years with his father, retiring in 1997, and served twice as president of the medical staff at Pekin Memorial Hospital (now Carle Health Pekin Hospital).

Dr. Wright and his wife donated their medical practice building to the Center for Prevention of Abuse to serve as a domestic violence emergency shelter named the Carol House of Hope in memory of their daughter Carol.

Dr. Wright graduated from Kenyon College in 1953 and received his Doctor of Medicine from Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine (now University of Illinois Chicago) in 1957, and served in the U.S. Army as a captain.

Dr. Wright was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Pekin Country Club, and the Shriners, and regularly donated to charitable organizations including the Salvation Army, TAPS, and Kenyon College.
