John A. Spring, former Mayor of Quincy, passed away on December 2, 2024; he was born June 7, 1948, in Kewanee and graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1971.

Taught science in the St. Louis area and later at Monroe Elementary School in Quincy before joining Quincy Notre Dame High School in 1976, where he taught biology and coached sports for 29 years and served as the first director of development.

Elected Mayor of Quincy in 2005 and served eight years, focusing on transportation infrastructure expansion including Amtrak services to promote economic growth and community development.

Served on numerous boards and organizations including the Quincy Service Club, Salvation Army, Quincy Notre Dame Foundation, Great River Economic Development Foundation, Illinois Municipal League, and U.S. Conference of Mayors.

The Illinois Senate mourns his passing and extends condolences to his surviving children Stacey, Joshua, and Michael; seven grandchildren; and other family members.
