William Alfred Caldwell of Waukegan passed away on December 3, 2024, at age 81.

He was born August 7, 1943, in New Africa, Mississippi, and moved to Waukegan, Illinois, where he attended Andrew Cooke Elementary School and joined Shiloh Baptist Church in the 1950s.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant for two years, then worked at Outboard Marine Corporation and later as a case manager at Waukegan Township until his retirement a decade prior.

He was known for his fashion sense, passion for Chicago sports teams and fishing competitions, love of travel by cruise ship, and musical talents; he was called "Jackie" by family and friends for his cool demeanor.

The Illinois Senate mourns his passing and extends condolences to his surviving family, including his daughter LaTonya Hill, grandson Durrelle Hill, and multiple nieces and nephews.
