IL HB0020

Requires the Governor to appoint a U.S. Senate vacancy replacement who is affiliated with the same political party as the departing senator, if that senator was elected as a member of an established political party still in existence

Appointees must demonstrate their party affiliation through their voting record in party primary elections or by holding/having held an office in a political party organization prior to appointment

Maintains existing law that the Governor makes temporary appointments to fill U.S. Senate vacancies until the next congressional election, when the seat is filled by voters

Amends Section 25-8 of the Illinois Election Code (10 ILCS 5/25-8)

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
