IL HB1118

Amends the School Code to reduce reinstatement penalties for lapsed Professional Educator Licenses by allowing payment of the lesser of $50 or $10 per year the license has lapsed

Currently, educators with lapsed licenses must pay a flat $50 penalty to reinstate; this change would benefit educators whose licenses lapsed for fewer than 5 years

Alternative reinstatement pathway remains available through completing 9 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution in a relevant content area

Back fees including registration fees from the time of expiration to reinstatement must still be paid in addition to the penalty

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
