IL HB1275

Requires school boards to provide free transportation for students living 1/2 mile or more from their assigned school if the school is located within or adjacent to an R3 zone (high-risk areas designated by the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority)

Applies only to schools outside of counties with 3,000,000 or more residents, effectively excluding Cook County from this requirement

Reduces the standard 1.5-mile distance threshold to 1/2 mile specifically for schools in or near R3 zones, which are areas identified as having elevated risk factors

Exempts students from mandatory transportation if adequate public transportation is available

State Mandates Act may require state reimbursement to school districts for costs associated with this expanded transportation requirement
