Beginning January 1, 2030, all new washing machines sold in Illinois for residential, commercial, or state use must contain a microfiber filtration system with a mesh size of 100 micrometers or smaller that is active during all washing cycles

Washing machines must display a conspicuous label instructing consumers to check the filter regularly and dispose of captured lint in a waste bin

The microfiber filtration system may be either built into the washing machine design or included as an in-line filter packaged and installed with the machine

Civil penalties for violations include up to $10,000 for a first offense and up to $30,000 for each subsequent violation

Amends the Environmental Protection Act by adding Section 52.6 and modifying civil penalty provisions in Section 42
