IL HB1655

Amends the Counties Code to create different training requirements for sheriff candidates based on county population size

Requires sheriff candidates in counties with 3,000,000 or more residents (Cook County) to complete the County Correctional Training Course prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, or equivalent training from another state or federal government

Requires sheriff candidates in counties with less than 3,000,000 residents to complete the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Officers Training Course, or equivalent training

Exempts sheriffs currently serving at the time the new requirements take effect from the new training mandates

Maintains existing eligibility requirements that sheriffs must be U.S. citizens, county residents for at least one year, and not convicted felons
