Requires the Department of Human Services to notify the sheriff (instead of the court) within 20 days of receiving a placement order for a defendant committed for mental health treatment

Mandates the Department pay the sheriff for housing and mental health services for each day beyond the 20-day deadline if placement is not provided, with the sheriff setting the payment terms

Shields sheriffs from liability for any issues that occur after a defendant remains in their custody beyond the 20th day awaiting mental health placement

Eliminates the 60-day deadline for the Department to admit defendants to secure facilities and removes the "good faith efforts" exception for placement delays

Removes the requirement for the Department to provide 30-day status updates to the court when placement cannot be made within 60 days
