IL HB1797

Requires the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to immediately share all child abuse or neglect reports with local law enforcement, regardless of the alleged abuser's relationship to the child (previously only shared when the abuser was not a parent, family member, caregiver, or household member)

Grants local law enforcement discretion to conduct criminal investigations based on shared reports, rather than receiving referrals for "consideration" of investigation

Expands the circumstances under which other agencies may investigate alongside DCFS to include reports involving any person, not just non-family members or non-caregivers

Named the "AJ Freund Act" after AJ Freund, a 5-year-old Crystal Lake boy murdered by his parents in 2019 despite multiple prior DCFS investigations

Amends Sections 7 and 7.3 of the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act (325 ILCS 5)
